Description
This is a modified pair of Beyerdynamic DT770 studio headphones, complete with dampened ear cups, mass loaded drivers, a 4-pin mini-XLR socket, a custom ultra-low capacitance cable for balanced input and a modified stock cable for unbalanced stereo input.
The modifications to the drivers and ear cups provide extended detail and control in the bass, to match the already crisp mids and highs. The addition of the 4-pin socket allows the cable to be detached, so it’s easier to use the headphones on a range of sources, while making them more portable and easy to store. We also change the wire around the headband that takes signal to the right ear cup, replacing it with paracord covered litz wire, which matches our custom cables and provides a lower capacitance for better timing and sound.
This pair comes with one of our audiophile grade, ultra-low capacitance cables with a mini-XLR at one end and a balanced connection of your choice at the other, such as the PonoPlayer or balanced XLR amps. This audiophile cable is made of four wire cores individually wrapped in paracord, where each core is made of 84 strands of individually insulated copper wire, which gives a lower resistance than most OFC cables (so less insertion loss). The capacitance for this cable varies depending on length and connector type, but is typically 7.5-40pF up to lengths of 2m. The cable can be made in either one or two paracord colours, for either a solid colour or stripe/two-tone look.
In addition to the balanced litz wire cable, we modify the stock cable with a 4-pin XLR, so the headphones can still be used out of the box on traditional 3.5mm or 6.35mm stereo equipment. This is cable is only included in the balanced version.
Please note that this listing only includes balanced connectors. If you need single ended connectors such as a 3.5mm or a 6.35mm then please take a look at our unbalanced listing: Link
If you are unsure as to what a balanced connection is then please refer to this guide.
All of our modified headphones are made to order. They will take between 2 and 4 weeks to make, then you will receive an email once they have been dispatched.

These are the 250 ohm version.
I’ve had these cans for a few days now, never having heard the stock dt770’s, but I am impressed. The bass is enough for me (a basshead). Still it’s not boomy, providing i turn off my iFi bass boost. Midrange is pronounced, i’d even go so far it matches the HGD58x which is open back. Depending on your amp, if there is an option to increase soundstage, just leave it, it makes these cans sound cheap and airy.
High end, now this is where it gets difficult, I have hearing damage and especially high notes hurt me. So I tend to favor the lower frequencies. That being said, these modified DT770’s don’t hurt me often, which is high praise.
Over the closed cans i currently own, the Sony MDR-1AM2(with custom pads) and the Sivga-021, i choose these in terms of comfort. In terms of bass, I am still undermined between modded MDR-1AM2 and these.
Comparison equipment:
Amp/dacs:
*Audio-GD – NFB 28.38 (make these cans way more analytical yet more soundstage, still a good amount of fun)
*Dethonray Honey H1 (my main portable solution, it softens most of the high-end that hurts my ears, amazing pairing)
*iFi Audio ZEN CAN Signature 6XX (My main desktop solution, a good mix between the huge desktop amp and portable dac/amp. Sounds great on these cans, but turn the bass and 6xx boost off.)
*Qudelix 5K (only left channel works, probably due to a lack of power)
In conlusion: If you want a solid set of closed-back cans, for not toooo much money, I highly advise you get these. The increased cost over the other cans i’ve mentioned is worth it in my amateur opinion.
