Custom Cans

We modify a lot of headphones here at custom cans so thought it may be useful or fun for some people if we showed some of what we do. We will have some guides to help you repair your headphones, some design reviews if you are interested to see how headphones are made and some fun headphone projects.

For halloween we made this pair of custom glow in the dark Sennheiser HD25 covered in tiny 8 bit depictions of classic horror characters. This video shows the process we used to make them.
Dismantle
Sand
Adhesion promoter
AutoBourne grey sealer
Into the dryer for an hour to cure
Wicked colours white
Sand
Custom mixed glow in the dark paint using glow in the dark pigment and a clear base mixed with a bit of white
Printed the characters on waterslide decal paper and then coated that with clear base
Apply the decals
Fill in the area around them with UV green Wicked Colours
Clearcoat with 3 coats of Lechler MegaLack
Re-addemble
Make spinny video ;)

A trip down memory lane today as I pull apart some 2000s DJ headphones
These are re-moulds of the some V700 with Pioneer HDJ-1000 vibes

Finally! an easy to solder 4.4mm balanced jack ;) In this video I take a look at the clever new 4.4mm jack design from aeco which makes it much easier to get a good solid solder joint when building balanced cables.

These new aeco 4.4mm jacks are some of the easiest jacks I have come across to get a good solid solder joint on. This video shows the technique I have been using to get a perfect connection every time.
I would recommend using PTFE plumbers tape to wrap the solder joints to prevent any chance of accidentally bridging connections.

In this video we show you how to solder a Neutrik NP3X-B 6.3mm jack on to a beyerdynamic headphone cable but the theory should be the same for most 6.3mm jacks and cables
