Light up eracups
Been working on a few new ideas over the past couple of weeks most are still under wraps but one which is ready to go is MDR-V700 light up earcups. As you may be aware I have done earcups with lasers and external LEDs but have always wanted to make some that lit up.
To create this effect was a bit trickier than I thought, First I thought of cutting a disk out of plexiglass to replace the cap but that did not work as the other pieces of the earcup needed to slot and screw in to it and it was too hard to cut all the wholes and groves accurately enough. So in the end I made a silicone mould and re-cast the original pieces in a clear resin.
I ended up embedding the LEDs in the edges of the mould so once the pieces hardened the LEDs were inside the walls of the piece. This made them light up right to the edges ooooh

They were done with some stencils I cut then filled in the details with airbrush and marker…. Nice even if I do say so my self.

They were pretty tricky to get right but turned out well and to top it off they glow in UV

finished iron man Pioneer HDJ-2000
Well they are finally back together.
This is the first pair of moded pioneer HDJ-2000 that have been done. Mainly because they are quite expensive and made of magnesium which can be tricky.
Big Iron Man Arc Reactor Project
With some other artists doing most of the hard work for me I have some more time for some special projects. This is the first of which and it is a tough one.
The plan is to make some Pioneer HDJ-2000 headphones look like iron man arc reactors. As you can imagine these will be some of the most expensive and exclusive DJ headphones once finished and I am a little nervous as they have to be spot on and I cant afford to make any mistakes.
If you have not seen the HDJ-2000 before, they are pretty beautiful already. They are renowned as being the best designed DJ headphones on the market with their magnesium hinges and memory foam pads.
As you can imagine, such a well made pair of headphones is very tricky to get apart safely without scratching the body. It took me a couple of hours of head scratching and nervously prodding to get the ear cups off.
But as you can see it all turned out OK
The mockup for the job looked like this…
The Next phase was to start to make the ark reactors. I cut two rings of plexiglass to replace the metal rings on the headphones. They had too be accurate down to 0.1mm to make it fit tightly.
Then I made the ring of tiny LEDs soldered on to two rings of wire
OOOh……….. Looking good
