Audiophile Silver HD25-1 Cable

Posted by JFunk on 02/09/2011 in Technologys |

After drooling over some of the cables from moon audio and cardas I decided to make a real audiophile cable to see how much difference they make.

I purchased some high end teflon covered silver cable and top of the range connectors and went to work….

First I took the cable and cut it into 4 pieces with two being a bit longer to keep the cable single sided entry ( the long bit will go over the headband to the left cup )

Then I created twisted pairs to stop any crosstalk

Then I twisted those pairs together wrapped the cable in nylon

Next – soldered on the connectors. I used a neutrik 3.5mm jack and cardas HPSC for the headphone end. To keep it all top notch I also used  cardas quad solder and flux

And then for testing

Sound wise… After trying them with several high rez FLAC files I can confirm that it really does make a difference – you can hear extra detail in the recordings that you just don’t get with the steel one.  I will make a few more practice ones and then probably start selling them – for the next one I will be plating the cable with strands of kevlar to make it stronger

Posted by JFunk on 01/08/2011 in Pro DJ Headphones |

Here are a couple done using some new equipment and techniques. The people / faces are digitally printed using a custom built rig as a guide and then airbrushed over the top. I am now using a new compressor which gives me much more control so I can do better freehand stuff like these

Video Tutorial – Dismantling the Sennheise HD280

Posted by JFunk on 01/08/2011 in Dismanteling and re building headphones |

Here is another video of the dismantling procedure to the Sennheiser HD 280 DJ headphones. It is all pretty straight forward but watch out for the little ballbearing and spring that pop out when you remove the arm from the slider – If you look close it caught me out and I thought I had snapped something LOL.
The video is a bit pants because it was too sunny for my cheap cam

Here is a quick video to show how to pull apart the technics RP-DH 1200 DJ headphones. They are not too hard but look out because the internal cables are glued the the casing and a bit tricky to chase out – be carefull!!

Here are some more Custom DJ Headphones

Posted by JFunk on 13/06/2011 in Pro DJ Headphones, Uncategorized |

These first ones have a chameleon paint job which changes from violet to green in different light

They were very tricky to get right as the paint would got go through my favorate airbrush because of the particle size but picked up a cheep one from ebay with a bigger nozzle and…. Hay Presto

Here are some done for Just Another Duo.

DJ Wood HD25-1…. Yellow is a really tricky colour to get right as you need to build it up in loads of layers to get it really yellow. They are not perfect but not bad

I love these ones… They were nearly impossible to do as the lines were so fine – – Basically I had to learn to pinstripe to finish them off but I love the look

Here are some more headphones with the ROTM design. As you can probably tell these took a long time and several markers to finish. I dont do may HDJ-1000 as they are a b!tch to work with due to all the strange angles but these were a labour of love.

Some more colour change HD25

24ct gold HDJ-2000 ….. What can I say. One way to make an expensive pair of headphones even more expensive is to cover them in gold
